PANJIM: The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) has sent an email to Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari seeking his appointment to meet Congress delegation during his visit to Goa on July 12.

“As per the media reports, we understand that you will be visiting Goa on July 12 and I would like to seek your appointment to meet you along with our Party MLAs, Member of Parliament (South Goa) and other functionaries to highlight various issues concerning Goa and Goans and which fall under the domain of the portfolios held by you,” GPCC president Amit Patkar wrote in his letter.

Goan roads especially the National Highways have turned into “death traps” with almost one life lost every day. The expansion works of the national highways are of sub-standard quality, which have resulted in caving of roads, landslides and fatal accidents, Patkar has pointed out in his letter.

The national highways expansion works on Patradevi–Porvorim stretch have become a major cause of concern due to complete negligence of the contractor to maintain quality of the works as well as providing safety to the Commuters. There are concerns amongst the Public on the expansion works presently undergoing and proposed to be carried out on the stretches of roads in the State.

Congress has listed stretches like Patradevi to Porvorim highway expansion work, Porvorim to Panjim construction of flyover, poor accessibility to Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), Bambolim, Old Goa to Usgaoh ighway expansion passing through Bhoma Village, Nuvem to Navelim construction of national highway, Navelim to Cuncolim highway expansion work, Cuncolim bypass, Cuncolim to Canacona highway expansion, coal transportation from Mormugao Port Authority (MPA, construction of Observatory Tower along Zuari Bridge, construction of Borim Bridge and highway expansion passing through Borim village.
