Salcete turning into ‘hunting ground’ for sexual predators

Befriend and abuse minors by luring victims with money, jobs, marriage offers; four rape cases reported in two months

MARGAO:  In the last two months police stations across the Salcete taluka registered four rape cases. Of these four cases, two were registered by Maina-Curtorim Police, one each by Margao police and Colva Police respectively. The victims included minor girls and a school dropout.

However, all the rape cases registered have been detected except the one reported at Colva.

Maina-Curtorim Police arrested a 21-year-old Melkesh from St Jose Areal, for allegedly raping a 16-year-old student from a village in Salcete. The accused was working in a private firm.

The victim’s parents lodged a police complaint.

Lady PSI Veronica Coutinho conducted the investigation.

The police have registered the offence against the accused under Section 376 of the IPC for rape, Section 8 of the Goa Children’s Act, and the POCSO Act.

Maina-Curtorim Police arrested 25-year-old Saldon Faleiro for allegedly raping a minor from Salcete on the pretext of marriage. Faleiro allegedly lured the 15-year-old victim and sexually abused her on multiple occasions. The victim’s parents filed a complaint with Maina-Curtorim police and a case was registered under Section 376 of IPC, Section 8 of the Goa Children’s Act, and POCSO Act.

In another case, the Colva police booked 19-year-old Rajesh Chavan for allegedly raping a minor girl from Salcete, who in her complaint, alleged that the accused developed friendship and later sexually abused her. The police stated that the victim was residing in an orphanage, while her parents were in Karnataka. The girl was admitted at the South Goa District Hospital and later shifted to Goa Medical College at Bambolim.

The accused has been booked under Section 376 of IPC and POCSO Act. Police are on the lookout for the accused who is absconding and wireless messages have been sent across Goa and to neighbouring States.

Margao Police arrested one Santosh Raiker from Navelim for allegedly raping a 15-year –old seventh standard student from a village in Salcete. Police said that an offence under Section 376 of Goa Children’s Act and POCSO Act has been registered. Police said that the accused allegedly lured her by giving money and abused her. The victim has been sent to GMC for a medical checkup.
