PANJIM: Four houses allegedly built in a government property at Altinho, Panjim, were demolished by the authorities as per the High Court order.

The occupants of these houses protested against the demolition and appealed to the demolition squad and the CCP authorities to give them at least a few more days, so as to remove their belongings and to shift elsewhere.

“Our eviction during the rains is a gift to us from the government,” lamented an occupant, who claimed she was staying in the house for past 45 years. A senior citizen couple was left in the rain and in tears.

The CCP officials informed that a litigation between the landlord and the occupants was pending in the Court since 2008. He said that after the court order, the occupants were given a week’s time to vacate the houses or else it would be razed and the cost of Rs 50,000 each would be recovered from them.

All the four houses were given electricity and water connections but the occupants never paid the taxes to the CCP. It was also informed that one of the occupants from these houses was recently recruited in the Goa Police department.
