VASCO: The members of Christian community along with Vasco MLA Krishna ‘Daji’ Salkar on Monday submitted a representation to the Vasco railway station in-charge, regarding the starting of special train services for the annual Vailankanni feast.

The annual Vailankanni feast will be celebrated on September 8 preceded by novenas. The said that the first train that leaves from Vasco to vailankannion August 27 should leave on time because last year the train was delayed and caused stress and inconvenience to the devotees and other pilgrims. In the representation, the devotees have requested the South Western Railway (SWR) authorities to have a longer period of halting of two days to offer extra time for the devotees. The trains that will leave from Vasco station can halt for two days so that the pilgrims who leave from Goa get enough time to offer prayers and attend one mass atleast.

Many a times the pilgrims leave from Goa and we want that no devotee is faced by time crunch when they have set out on a holy pilgrimage. The devotees have also suggested thattrain leaves from Vasco on Monday and leaves for Vasco again on Tuesday night reaching back to Goa on Wednesday. This arrangement does not provide enough time for the devotees and they are stressed out of missing the return train while they are in Vailankanni Church.

“We have asked the railways to have two trains a week for to and fro movement with a gap of two days so that the devotees can get enough time,” the devotees said.

Salkar said that many devotees from Vasco had approached him for a need of special train services to accommodate the extra rush during the Vailankannifeast. He assured the devotees that he will their representation to the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant with a request to provide these facilities.for the sake of devotees leaving Goa for Vailankanni feast.
