Mormugao Council Chairperson warns against abusing city fathers

VASCO: Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Chairperson Girish Borker has issued strict warning to anyone abusing city fathers after a councillor Narayan Borkar complained of being abused by a citizen.

“Anybody abusing councillors will be dealt with stringent action, no matter how politically connected they may be,” Borker said after the council meeting.

According to Borker, a citizen from another ward abused councillor Narayan Borkar with filthy words on the cellphone for taking action against a vendor for selling fruits illegally.

The Mormugao municipal council had already filed a police complaint in this regard, Borker said.

Councillor Narayan Borkar said that he was abused on the phone with filthy words and that alleged that one of the councillor was in connivance with the citizen, who abused him.

The councillor said that he was a member of the municipal market committee and it was his job to ensure that there were no illegalities or encroachments in the market. He said that during his visit, he noticed a vendor selling fruits illegally in a parking space near the market and requested him to move out from the parking area since he was blocking the parking space and causing congestion.

The vendor was again seen at the same place the next day and the matter was reported to the market committee, who decided to go to the spot and talk to him. The committee warned him and left and we posted photograph of the vendor in the market committee WhatsApp group which had municipal staff and inspectors as members.
