MARGAO: Following complaints from irate locals over the frequent and long power fluctuations in the village, the Chinchinim panchayat members, led by the Sarpanch, held a meeting on Thursday with the Electricity Department’s Executive Engineer (EE) and Assistant Engineer (AE) in Margao.
Sarpanch Valentino Barretto stated that the power outage situation is so bad that people are facing great difficulty and inconvenience.
He said that this has been going on for the last ten days, and due to the voltage problems, electrical appliances too are getting affected.
Worse, he said the locals are upset that their complaints are not being addressed. While the Electricity Department officials attributed the same due to technical matters, the sarpanch pointed out that this is being repeated to them over and over again, but it is the people who are suffering.
He also brought to their attention that the trees have not been trimmed properly near the power lines and that there are many streetlights that are not functioning either.
The Sarpanch said that he has asked the department to clear their outstanding rent fees owed to the panchayat, since the department has been running an office from the Chinchinim panchayat building for years now.
