PONDA: Thieves broke open 12 offices at Kurtarkar Commercial Arcade, located in a residential area at Ponda, on Wednesday night.

The incident shocked locals as the thieves targeted offices where they usually can't steal cash.

The owners of these offices were puzzled as to why the thieves targeted offices where cash is not usually kept.

However, they were relieved to find that valuables like laptops and computers were left untouched in most offices, except for Rs 2500 cash stolen from one office.

The thieves used hammers to damage the locks and break open the doors of the offices.

Upon entering the offices, they ransacked files in some cupboards, possibly searching for cash, but did not take away laptops or computers.

The thieves targeted offices which included the IMA office, a tax and financial consultant’s office, and other businesses.

Six offices were located on the first floor and another six on the second floor.

Following complaints, the Ponda Police visited the spot for an investigation.

Expressing serious concern over the repeated incidents of thefts in the area, the locals demanded increased police patrolling.

It is pertinent to note that there is no CCTV surveillance in the building, which made it easier for the thieves to operate.

Ponda PI Tushar Lotlikar stated that the motive behind the break-ins was theft, but apart from the Rs 2,500 cash, no other valuables were stolen.

The police are currently investigating the matter.
