MARGAO:  Artistes from across Goa are frustrated over the government's neglect in safeguarding the Kala Academy, Goa’s premier art and culture institution, despite numerous alerts. They are mobilising support for a meeting on June 17 in Panjim to collectively demand action to protect the structure from further deterioration.

The planned collective action aims to highlight the importance of maintaining and protecting the Kala Academy, Goa’s premier art and culture institution.

The artistes clarified that the upcoming meeting on June 17 is not intended as an agitation or protest. Rather, its purpose is to gather and listen to the views of artistes regarding Kala Academy and to strategise for effective action to safeguard this cultural landmark.

Renowned artiste Rajdeep Naik expressed dismay over the lack of response from the Kala Academy’s office and officials regarding his submissions on structural issues and challenges faced by artistes.

Naik emphasised the critical need to address the prevailing sorry state of affairs at the Kala Academy, highlighting its impact on artistes and their work.

Naik has extended an invitation for a crucial meeting on June 17 to discuss and decide on the next steps regarding the deteriorating condition of the structure and the plight faced by artistes at Kala Academy.

 The meeting aims to garner significant support from artistes, including tiatrists, to collectively voice their concerns and strategies for effective action.

 Naik stressed the importance of artistes visiting Kala Academy and experiencing firsthand the prevailing conditions and inconveniences faced by performing artistes. This personal understanding is crucial for advocating effectively for necessary improvements and support.

Speaking to O Heraldo, senior tiatrist Tomazinho Cardozo expressed his dissatisfaction with the current situation at the Kala Academy.

He voiced concerns over the sorry state of affairs at the Kala Academy and highlighted the issues affecting the artists and performers. 

 “The conditions at the Kala Academy are very bad. Nothing is going well, and hence it is high time that all artistes come together to voice out the hardships,” stated Cardozo.  

Presently, artistes from various fields and areas are mobilising support to gather at the meeting.
