MARGAO: School representatives and parents in South Goa addressed concerns about implementing the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 at various taluka-level meetings such as Salcete, Sanguem, Quepem etc.

The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) has been conducting extensive meetings in various talukas since June 7, focusing on NEP implementation in Class IX. Heads of institutions, management members, teachers, and parents—up to five members per delegation—have participated in these one-on-one interactions to ensure a smooth transition and clear confusion regarding the NEP. The Education Secretary referred to these taluka-wise meetings to resolve problems and concerns.

A headmaster highlighted NEP’s benefits for skill development and vocational training, emphasising the importance of these meetings to address doubts among teachers and parents.

Teachers expressed confidence in their role in implementing the NEP. They noted that the meetings resolved questions about timetables, remedial teaching, and mid-day meals, and they were assured of additional facilities where needed.

Another teacher pointed out the necessity of the policy, stressing the importance of life skills over academics and advocating for skill-based education to catch up with Western standards.
