MARGAO: The Margao Traffic Cell has prepared a preliminary plan to enhance traffic flow, alleviate congestion, improve infrastructure, enforce traffic regulations, and increase safety in Margao. This plan will be presented to the traffic committee. According to sources within the Margao Traffic Cell, a meeting involving all relevant stakeholders, including school authorities, PTA members, the Public Works Department, and other concerned departments, will be convened shortly to discuss the draft plan and gather suggestions.
In addition to outlining strategies for enhancing traffic flow, it was decided to allocate vacant space at the old bus stand in Margao to parents who pick up their children during school hours. However, no official notification has yet been issued regarding this change.
The rough plan includes several measures to decongest the area near Fatima Convent High School, with the involvement of the Parent-Teacher Association..
Vacant spaces identified by the Margao Traffic Cell, such as police quarters at Comba and other areas, will be submitted to the committee for further discussion. One proposed decision, to reroute traffic from the SBI Margao branch straight towards Margao police station, is reportedly working well. Police sources said no vehicles are allowed to pass through the usual route between 1 pm and 2 pm, and vehicles are prohibited from entering the old bus stand during this hour.
